Why Julie Is In Love with Her Tiger Penthouse
Published: 25/06/2021
It’s no surprise that Tiger garden buildings proved very popular during lockdown. After all, there are many reasons why people sought – or were forced – to spend more time in their gardens. In Julie Thurston’s case, she bought her Tiger Penthouse to create extra space while she and her children were at home all the time. But even as the government’s restrictions are lifted, Julie says she’s still in love with her purchase. Here’s why…
A haven for home working
Julie says that during lockdown, she started using a gazebo in the garden to escape the clutter and chaos as everyone in her house was working from home. “Obviously, this wasn’t ideal space-wise,” Julie says. “I took to putting a gazebo outside for the sake of my well-being. “Of course, a gazebo wasn't ideal either in bad weather! I would sit in the garden more and more, both to see family and friends and to work. I became aware of how much better I felt in the outdoors and was taken back to our camping trips when the kids were small. “At the same time, I began to notice how much the decking area needed replacing and started thinking how much a permanent indoor-outdoor space would be beneficial. One I could socialise in and that both my daughter and I could work in when needed.”
What made Julie choose Tiger?
“A colleague at work has a Tiger Shed that she uses as a bar, so she recommended you. “I also researched online and looked at many options. I was considering that whilst I wanted a sizeable area, I didn't want to lose too much outdoor space or sun. “Although I found it hard not seeing it in person, I really loved the unique style of the Penthouse and took the plunge. I then set about taking the decking down and installing a patio area. “I have no regrets on my purchase. I love the outdoors and feel that should lockdown (hopefully not) ever return again, it will be easier on us all. Lockdown showed me I needed to value my outdoor space more, as I was sick of the sight of my house, but I wasn't happy with the garden."
How does Julie use her Penthouse?
“Lately, I've been using it for my morning cuppa. We’ve also had some meals in there and a few Zoom meetings. “The next step is to fit electrics and my daughter will work in there two days a week. I have been having friends and family round too – and I must say just having the option to use the space feels really nice. “As a family, we’re even discussing having Christmas Dinner out there just to be different. That's an idea for after it's insulated. Oh and of course a few Euro matches have been watched in there too."
The natural look
While many of our customers choose to paint their Tiger buildings, Julie took a different approach… “I prefer a natural look. I’ll be treating it with the Tiger Preserver, though. I might be open to painting it later, but we shall see."
How easy was the Penthouse to assemble?
“My partner, a gardener/handy man, and I did it together in a day. It was much easier than I initially thought and went together well. I was worried and felt massively relieved once it was up!
Great for work and play
“I'm very happy and enjoying adding little homely touches to it. We're having a party for my sons 15th birthday this week and I'm looking forward to barbecuing in the sunshine, knowing my mum can sit in there if the sun is too much for her. “She likes being able to sit in there with me without having to go in and out of the house as I have steps that she struggles with."
It’s transformed the garden
“The Penthouse transformed my garden. In fact, it's encouraged me to change some other aspects of the space.” For inspiration to help transform your garden, browse the Tiger range here.
