Beware of imitations- log cabins which use cheaper styrene plastic windows (which tend to ‘mist’ or shatter easily over time). All Tiger log cabins come with 4mm thick toughened glass as standard. This glazing is more shock and heat resistant than horticultural glass in many other buildings, making your Tiger all the more durable.

One of the best things you can do for the longevity of your summer house is properly protecting it from the elements, and from damp. If you’re not sure how to damp proof a summerhouse, start by ensuring there aren’t any structural issues – are there any issues with the roofing felt or shingles? It’s also worth treating the timber on your summer house regularly, and we recommend pressure treatment specifically for summerhouses. Painting your summer house is another step that can assist with weatherproofing – just make sure you’re using a waterproof product like 100% acrylic latex paint.
Inadequate ventilation is another common culprit of damp, but thankfully there are several affordable ways you can tackle this. Installing small wall vents to improve airflow is a fairly straightforward process, but you could also consider adding an electric fan, or the greener alternative of a wind-powered whirligig.
When you purchase your octagonal summerhouse, you’ll also want to think about whether you plan to wire it into the mains. This will give you more options when it comes to finding the right lighting – as natural light or battery-powered lights may not suffice if you’re building a home office or workshop. Hooking your summer house up to mains power also enables you to add features like a Wi-Fi booster, an extra monitor for work, or a TV if you’re planning on using the space as a den.
You can even provide your summer house with a water supply by connecting it to the water mains if you’re thinking of installing a sink – in short, adding utilities is a great way to make the space more versatile.
