Octagonal Summer House Uses
More and more households are opting to add a beautiful octagonal summerhouse to their property – and with space at such a premium on the housing market today, it’s not hard to see why.
There’s a whole host of different uses our summer houses are suited to, but our octagonal summer houses particularly make excellent spaces to sit down and work on a hobby — for instance, you might turn it into a crafting studio or a mini home gym.
It’s also an excellent addition to your property if you’re working in a remote or hybrid occupation. By setting up a home office in your summer house, you can find a peaceful nook in the garden where you can concentrate and take calls, away from the hustle and bustle of the house.
On top of all that, octagonal summer houses also make wonderful spots where you can relax on your own with a garden view, or entertain a few friends during a summer party (particularly if the weather doesn’t go to plan!).
Features of an Octagonal Summer House
Octagonal summer houses are a very distinctive choice for any garden or outdoor space. Featuring multi-directional windows, these builds are designed to let in as much natural light as possible throughout the day. You can even opt for full pane glazing and double doors to really maximise on that sunshine.
It may be the angular shape of the summerhouses in this collection that makes them so luxurious and memorable, but our range of sizes offer enough space to make these models very versatile. Just make sure that when you’re choosing the size and location of your summer house, you check our planning permission guide, as these factors can impact whether or not you need to apply.

Octagonal Garden House Maintenance
While our octagonal summer houses are built to be low maintenance, keeping your build in good condition does require a little upkeep, especially if you want your summer house to last for decades to come.
Damp-proofing and Ventilation
One of the best things you can do for the longevity of your summer house is properly protecting it from the elements, and from damp. If you’re not sure how to damp proof a summerhouse, start by ensuring there aren’t any structural issues – are there any issues with the roofing felt or shingles? It’s also worth treating the timber on your summer house regularly, and we recommend pressure treatment specifically for summerhouses. Painting your summer house is another step that can assist with weatherproofing – just make sure you’re using a waterproof product like 100% acrylic latex paint.
Inadequate ventilation is another common culprit of damp, but thankfully there are several affordable ways you can tackle this. Installing small wall vents to improve airflow is a fairly straightforward process, but you could also consider adding an electric fan, or the greener alternative of a wind-powered whirligig.
Light and Utilities
When you purchase your octagonal summerhouse, you’ll also want to think about whether you plan to wire it into the mains. This will give you more options when it comes to finding the right lighting – as natural light or battery-powered lights may not suffice if you’re building a home office or workshop. Hooking your summer house up to mains power also enables you to add features like a Wi-Fi booster, an extra monitor for work, or a TV if you’re planning on using the space as a den.
You can even provide your summer house with a water supply by connecting it to the water mains if you’re thinking of installing a sink – in short, adding utilities is a great way to make the space more versatile.
