As we embrace 2023's love for sustainable planting and charming cottage gardens, let's keep our eyes on the horizon for 2024's garden glow-up! What fresh trends will blossom? Stay tuned as we dig into the future of 2024 garden trends!

Ready to spruce up your green space with the freshest garden trends of 2024? We’ve dug deep into Pinterest, scoured Google, and listened to what garden enthusiasts say, so you can bring the hottest designs to your garden.

Cabin Aesthetics

The rustic charm of the log cabin is migrating from remote forests to our backyards, with searches for ‘cabin aesthetic’ up 100% year on year on Pinterest. This trend blends natural elements like weathered wood and earthy tones with handcrafted details, creating a cosy haven amidst greenery.

Bringing this magic to your garden is simple. Use wood liberally, from decking and furniture to installing your very own log cabin. You can also add stone pathways and pebble features for an earthy touch. Decorate your garden building with warm throws and natural textiles like cotton and linen, blurring the lines between indoors and out.

String lights and large windows further enhance this connection, while indoor plants and potted herbs bring the outdoors in. Let personal touches - vintage finds, handcrafted décor, and family heirlooms - make your cabin-inspired garden uniquely yours.

Green will remain the reigning champion in the colour palette for 2024. Designers, fuelled by their love for nature and the environment, are embracing shades of green that beautifully reflect the world around us.

Seamless Space

You may have heard of the concept of bringing nature indoors and extending your interior space outdoors. As people spend more time indoors, homeowners are recognising that the boundaries between indoors and outdoors are becoming less distinct. This allows for the expansion of living spaces and fosters a strong connection with the natural world.

To enhance your living space and enjoy the fresh air, consider setting up a garden room. Use tall shrubs or hanging plants to create a sense of enclosure like indoor spaces. Ensure proper lighting with fairy lights, overhead lights, lanterns, or outdoor lamps. Make the area comfortable by adding a lounge chair or hammock.

In 2024, it is anticipated that the concept of creating a seamless space will regain popularity. The focus will be on opening the interior to natural light and fresh air, rather than creating the illusion of being outdoors.

You can experience the best of both worlds with The Hotham, a modern log cabin that ingeniously blends an outdoor covered area with a separate garden room. Whether it's rain or shine, this multifunctional design allows you to entertain guests and enjoy the space all year round.

Different Zones, Different Levels

A multi-level garden brings a multitude of benefits that a single-level garden cannot match. The various levels allow for effective zoning, providing distinct areas for different purpose and present an exciting opportunity to experiment with different materials, adding visual interest and texture to the overall design. When it comes to planting, dividing the levels into built-in beds of varying heights is a brilliant strategy that adds depth and dimension to the garden, but also ensures that every angle offers a captivating view of the lush greenery. To tackle the challenge of height differences, terracing is the ultimate solution. By creating terraced levels, you transform steep slopes into practical, usable spaces that are both functional and visually appealing. Say goodbye to impractical sloping surfaces and embrace the versatility and charm of a terraced garden.

Multifunctional Garden Rooms

Working from home has become the new norm for many of us, and having a garden room is like having a slice of luxury right at our doorstep. This incredible space offers endless possibilities - whether you transform it into a serene office, an entertaining space, or a home gym, it provides the perfect escape from the distractions of home life. Embracing the separation between work or workout, a garden room truly is an invaluable opportunity and a great investment that can add value to your property.

Grow Your Own Bouquets

In 2024, people are going to be embracing the joy of growing their own bouquets, snipping fragrant stems for their homes, and crafting vibrant arrangements that rival florists' finest. Pinterest has seen a 200% increase in searches for ‘cut flower garden’ as people look for inspiration for growing their own flower arrangements. Imagine stepping into your garden, snipping a handful of fragrant lilies, and creating a centrepiece that radiates the beauty you cultivated yourself.

Urban Gardening

Concrete jungles are sprouting green ones! Urban gardening has been growing in recent years and is set to be a standout trend in 2024. People will be transforming balconies, rooftops, and even windowsills, with Google searches for the term, ‘urban garden design ideas’ up 100% year on year and ‘balcony small garden ideas’ is up 250% year on year. Container gardening and hanging gardens maximise vertical space and add beauty to small-space gardens.  So, hang those pots, decorate those shelves, and let the green draping cascade begin!

Solutions to having a small garden will also play a part in 2024. Brits will be maximising their outdoor space with small garden storage and trailing plants which have a big impact without taking up too much space.

Using our Gardens for Entertainment

Get ready to host alfresco soirées and fireside feasts, because 2024 is all about turning your back garden into the hottest party spot. Gardens are evolving from leafy sanctuaries to buzzing social hubs, with a 67% increase in searches for ‘outdoor entertaining area’ and a 300% increase for ‘garden party ideas’ on Pinterest this month.

Think beyond barbeques and lawn chairs. Picture cozy fire pits crackling under starry skies, inviting pizza ovens, and string lights casting a warm glow over al fresco movie nights.

This shift is no surprise as a Tiger customer survey revealed that the number of customers who envisioned their garden buildings as entertainment spaces nearly doubled in 2023 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing desire to swap cramped living rooms for garden gatherings. So, roll out the welcome mat and prepare to make your garden the hottest ticket in town this year!
